OERCA Health Monitoring System
In 2016, OERCA will be finalizing the development of Health Monitoring System, an acuity score based on a data matrix of information contained throughout the system. The scoring formula is in development and research is ongoing to provide the most relevant “weighting” to each metric contained in the formula matrix. The result will be a numerical value between one and three; 1= chronic or critical condition exists, 2= average/expected health picture for most adult animals and 3= above average (indicative of young animals or thriving adults).
The HMS will, over time, come to provide a reliable scale for rapid evaluation of a large number of animals within any size zoological community. Sudden changes in an HMS score become indicative of possible threats to health or well-being and will prompt automated alerts to designated recipients prompting further evaluation.
